ABOUT IDYDC

IRINGA DEVELOPMENT OF YOUTH, DISABLED, AND CHILDREN CARE (IDYDC)

Established in 1991, IDYDC is a well-known organisation throughout the Iringa region and works intimately with the Iringa Municipality and Iringa Football Association

The centre is located just outside the town of Iringa in the highlands of central Tanzania, approximately 500km from Dar es Salaam. Among the challenges facing the region is its high HIV/AIDS prevalence rate, a high school drop-out rate and substance abuse. The centre will provide a hub of community activity in an area severely lacking in basic services and opportunities for youth employment.

Football is used as a vehicle by IDYDC’s educational sports program to teach young people life skills and HIV information. Coaches give critical lessons to young people, boosting resilience, teaching them on HIV/AIDS awareness, and empowering them to confront gender stereotypes.

IDYDC is a community-based NGO which has reached more than 50,000 young people since being established in 1991. Based in the town of Iringa, IDYDC implements projects throughout the Iringa district, with a particular focus on health promotion and children’s rights.

Kits for the World provided football kits to be used by the hope centre to help aid and engage the youth of the district to take part in the IDYDC programs.

Quick Facts
IDYDC aims to reach out to street children, orphans and young people with a history of drug and alcohol abuse, and uses football as a key instrument to bring about social change.

Alongside the football programmes, IDYDC offers vocational training courses, counselling services and micro financing programmes to local communities. Their efforts have been acknowledged as exemplary within the region, and numerous other organisations have followed a similar path in recent years.

The goal of Kits for the World
Was to find out the target age group of the participants at the IDYDC programs to supply full kits including football boots.

We believe in the power of football and something as little as a football kit can have an impact and helping NGO’s offset the cost.

We believe that through football and being part of a team. A kit can help soften perceptions and misconceptions when combined quality education and support.

Which is what IDYDC offer at-risk adolescents, with health education, life skills development, and gender equality support

Biodiversity

Wherever trees are established, wildlife and other plants are sure to follow, ensuring a healthier ecosystem. Trees provide shelter and food for a variety of birds and small animals. Attracting pollinators which in turn help with vegetable and plant growth used not just for food but also for medicines.

Climate

Trees are sometimes called the lungs of the Earth because they absorb pollutants through their leaves. Trees improve water quality, and reduce flooding and erosion.

Trees temper climate. Trees lower air temperatures and humidity; they can also influence wind speed. Evaporation of water from trees, or transpiration, has a cooling effect.

Kits for the World

Kits for the World is committed to help fighting the issue of climate change. To this end not only do we reuse and recycle football kits. We also look for the most sustainable way to transport football kits to our partner projects.

To offset this transaction we also are also looking to partner with charities that can help re-green planting trees and forests which play a crucial role in combating climate change and loss of biodiversity.

Kits for the world are also looking to partner with companies of electric vans to help assist in local collections of kit donations.

Before we accept a kit donation we make sure the kits are viable to be included in our re-use re-cycle process. We also invite clubs to help in our fundraising objectives.
