Kits for the World is part of Football for the Goals, a United Nations initiative that advocates for the SDG

Guppyfriend

Guppyfriend is a brand that develops products to stop microplastic pollution and protect the environment, health, and clothing. It offers solutions such as the Guppyfriend Washing Bag, which prevents microfibers from sports clothing from entering the water systems during washing.

Guppyfriend also raises awareness about the consequences of microplastics in the environment

A research team from the University of California at Santa Barbara found that washing clothes in a city of 100,000 people produces as many microfibers as 15,000 plastic bags. This means that a city like Berlin could generate more than 500,000 plastic bags worth of microfibers every day

Tackling the microplastic menace

Did you know that every time you wash your synthetic football kit, you are releasing tiny plastic particles into the water? These microplastics are too small to be filtered out by wastewater treatment plants, and end up in the oceans, rivers and soil, where they pose a serious threat to the environment and human health.

Our shared mission is to raise awareness about the often overlooked issue of microplastics. Sports clothing, while essential for athletes worldwide, contributes to this problem when tiny plastic particles are released during washing.

CSV 28, a renowned grassroots football club which has developed a number of youth players who are now playing in some of the world’s top divisions from the Premier League,Bundesliga and Serie A.

CSV 28  is committed to promoting sustainable practices in sports, as a partner of Kits for the World, an organisation dedicated to providing sports equipment to those in need, shares this commitment. Guppyfriend is a pioneering company that has developed an innovative washing bag to prevent microplastics from entering our water systems.

Together, we aim to shed light on this critical issue….We believe that through this partnership, we can raise awareness about reducing microplastic pollution and fostering a more sustainable future for sports.

Our Sustainability objectives for this project

Nearly half of the world’s population – approximately 42 per cent – is under the age of 25. Today’s generation of children and youth is the largest in human history. Children and young people can be instrumental as a target group to raise awareness of the SDGs and commitment to implement the 2030 Agenda.
