Colin Latham founder of KiTs for the World said:

‘We are happy to have  Xando and The Craig Bellamy Foundation on board for this project and we hope to announce an exciting new project with KiTs for the World,  in the coming months. We also would like to thank FC ZWOLLE for their support of KiTs for the world by the generous donations over the years for this event.

‘We’ve already attracted huge support from people and clubs sending in their football kits, but now the kits must be sent to the people who need them most. ‘The Craig Bellamy Foundation is developing communities through the universal language of football.

‘Fundraising is a must for this project to ship the kits out and we hope people are just as generous in supporting us to do that.’

Tim Kellow, CEO of The Craig Bellamy Foundation added:

” We are delighted to be involved in such a wonderful initiative. Football is an international language and it is great that children from across Europe are coming together to support those kids less fortunate than themselves – whilst having fun in the process!”

The Craig Bellamy Foundation was created in 2008 to offer underprivileged children the chance to reach their true potential. The Foundation runs a non-profit professional football academy and also a national youth league that uses football to tackle the country’s key development priorities – education, health, youth exclusion and gender inequality.

The Academy

Our Academy nurtures the athletic, academic and personal development of the country’s most promising sporting talent, securing them footballing and education placements oversees.Five year scholarships are awarded to children aged 11 to 13 following an extensive annual nationwide scouting process.

The Youth Development League

Our League’s unique model ensures that all players regularly attend school, respect principles of fair-play, and deliver health messages and social development projects that benefit other children and communities. Involving over 2000 children – boys and girls – in 100 teams at the under-12 and under-14 age groups, the League covers the country’s four regions – Freetown, Makeni, Bo and Kenema

Our achievements

• Education: Achieved average school attendance rates of 94%, more than four times the national average for secondary education of 21% (UNICEF 2009)

• Community development: Implemented over 500 youth-led community development projects with engagement and support from local stakeholders

• Girl’s rights: Promoted gender equality and empowerment by improving girl’s school attendance, participation in community projects and life skills development

• Health: Delivered life-saving health messages to over 50,000 people across the country including sensitisation on hygiene, malaria and HIV/AIDS

• Youth empowerment: Tackled youth exclusion through employing and training more than 100 male and female youth leaders and helping them to identify career pathways

Support us

Now in our third full season, the League’s scope and impact continues to grow. We are expanding to involve more regions and age groups and, on International Women’s Day 2012, launched a national Girls League.

We are now seeking your support to help implement this growth and offer thousands more children the chance to improve their and their communities’ lives.
